About Us

The SRS CRO was originally created as the Savannah River Regional Diversification Initiative (SRRDI) in 1993 by Congressman Butler Derrick of South Carolina with support from Congressman Don Johnson and Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of Georgia.

These members of Congress worked with then-Secretary of Energy Hazel O’Leary to promote economic development by addressing changes at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site resulting from downsizing at the end of the Cold War.

SRSCRO is composed of business, government and academic leaders from Georgia and South Carolina.  Initially, its mission was to develop and implement a regional economic development plan utilizing technology-based facilities at the Savannah River Site.  Today, the SRSCRO remains focused on diversifying the region’s economy by supporting new business ventures that create new jobs in the region.

Located in the rapidly growing southeast, the region includes Richmond and Columbia counties in Georgia and Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell counties in South Carolina. The area includes the cities of Augusta, GA and Aiken, SC and is less than three hours drive from Atlanta, Charlotte, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean beaches of Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island.

It is our intent to help the region develop a diverse economic base by providing new emerging and existing companies the financial opportunity and incentives to locate and expand within the region.
